According to the US Bureau of Labor Statistics, healthcare support occupations, healthcare practitioners, and technical occupations in the healthcare industry are expected to grow faster than average over the next 10 years, adding about 1.8 million jobs each year. Bachelor of Science in Health Sciences
20 courses. 60 credits.

If you want to work in healthcare, or move into another role in the industry, but need a bachelor’s degree, the UW-Milwaukee Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Sciences: Health Sciences degree builds on your experience by developing and strengthening skills in critical thinking, problem solving, management, and interprofessional leadership. The curriculum builds on your associate degree, giving you 60 credits toward the 120-credit degree completion minimum and allows you to earn additional credentials with your degree. Designed with flexibility, you choose the electives that prepare you for the healthcare career you want—in both clinical and nonclinical settings—whether you want to move up or into another role. Built in to this degree is the Interprofessional Leadership in Healthcare microcredential, which you earn while completing the degree and allows you to showcase your knowledge with a digital badge.  In addition, you can earn the Health Care Informatics certificate with your degree by choosing the six required courses as electives.

Health Care Informatics Certificate
6 courses. 18 credits. 

Earn this certificate on its own by completing six courses or while completing your Health Sciences bachelor’s degree. You’ll gain the skills and knowledge to understand, analyze, and evaluate the information used by successful healthcare organizations to provide patient care. In addition, it can prepare you for a wide range of career options within hospitals, clinics, insurance, and pharmaceutical firms, as well as companies who design, develop, and implement health information systems.

  • IT professionals who want to move into the growing healthcare industry
  • Healthcare professionals interested in expanding their skills in IT, technology, and data analysis 

Interprofessional Leadership in Healthcare Microcredential
3 courses. 9 credits.

This microcredential can be completed on its own or while earning the Health Sciences bachelor’s degree. You’ll gain skills in how to work effectively with and across disciplines to provide patient care. Complete three courses and you’ll be awarded a digital badge that you can use anywhere to show employers you’ve developed the knowledge, skills, and competencies needed in healthcare leadership.
