GPA Calculator

This tool is designed to assist you with calculating or estimating your Grade Point Average (GPA), and is not tied to the University’s Student Records System. The results are not official and are based only on the data that you provide.

Below is the grading scale used for calculating your GPA:

A A- B+ B B- C+ C C- D F
4.0 3.7 3.3 3.0 2.7 2.3 2.0 1.7 1.0 0.0

Please note:

  • For UW-Parkside: “MD”=A and “M”=B
  • Incomplete (I), In Progress (PR) and Withdrawal (W) are not assigned grade points; therefore, they are not calculated in your GPA
  • C and D grades are rarely if ever assigned in UW Flexible Option
  • Transfer credit(s) from other institutions accepted toward your program are not factored into your GPA.

You can use the GPA Calculator to:

  1. Estimate your subscription GPA at the end of your current/next subscription period
  2. Project how your current/next subscription period GPA will impact your cumulative GPA
  3. Calculate how long it will take to reach your Goal GPA (based on your remaining credits to graduate)

How to Use the GPA Calculator Functions:

To use the GPA Calculator, you will need to know your Current Cumulative GPA and Total Credits Taken Toward GPA.

Where to find your Cumulative GPA and Total Credits
  1. Log in to PAWS or SOLAR (depending on your home campus) and navigate to your Student Center.
  2. Go to the Academics section. From the dropdown menu, select “Grades.” If you are currently enrolled, you should see your current term. If you are not currently enrolled, select your most recent term.
  3. In the Term Statistics section and in the Description column, find “Units Taken Toward GPA” and “GPA.” Find the corresponding totals in the Cumulative Total column.
  4. Enter “GPA” number in the “Current Cumulative GPA” field of the GPA Calculator.
  5. Enter “Units Taken Toward GPA” number in the “Current Total Credits” field of the GPA Calculator.

Note: If you are a UW-Parkside (UWP) student taking CGS courses at UW-Milwaukee (UWM), you do not need to factor in your UWM course credits into your UWP GPA.

Calculate your Goal GPA
  1. Enter your Current Cumulative GPA and Credits Taken Towards GPA (see Where Can I find GPA information above).
  2. Enter your Goal GPA.*
  3. In the “Credit Left to Graduate” box, enter in the number of credits you need to finish your degree (which you can find on your Academic Plan of Study (APS)).*
  4. Click “Calculate” to view a Goal GPA chart with various pathways to reach your goal GPA.
  5. How to use and interpret the Goal GPA chart:
    1. The BOLDED text represents how many credits and what grades you will need (on average) to reach your Goal GPA.
    2. You may find that it might take more than one subscription period to reach your Goal GPA.
    3. Calculations do not account for course repeats.
    4. For UW-Parkside: “MD”=A and “M”=B
    5. If you want to recalculate your Goal GPA, enter different information (per steps 1-3 above), then click “Calculate” again to view updated information.

*Note: You can use the Calculate Goal GPA function to calculate long-term GPA goals (e.g., graduation) or to calculate short-term goals (e.g., to confirm what grades you need and how many credits it will take to clear academic probation and bring cumulative GPA above a 2.00).

If you are repeating a course (i.e., you enrolled in the course in an earlier subscription period), check the “Course Repeat” checkbox and enter the “previous grade” you received in the earlier term.*
4. Note that the Subscription Period GPA and Cumulative GPA fields will update as you enter in the course, credits, and grade information.
5. Select “(-)Reset Current Period” if you need to clear any information you entered to start over with your calculations.

*View the Repeating a Course/Retaken Course Policy at your Institution: UWM or UWP

For UW-Parkside students: UW-Parkside does include transfer credits in the calculation of your degree GPA. We recommend using the GPA Calculator solely for credits taken at UW-Parkside.
