Who are the Enrollment Advisers?
The close-knit UW Flexible Option team of EAs are partners with you as you begin your educational journey. The EAs enrich your decision-making process by bringing experience and expertise to meet your unique needs. In addition, our team has a diverse background – in fields of counseling, social work, academic advising, student affairs, and teaching. Our whole team is especially passionate about helping you make the best decision for your goals, family, and career.
I appreciated that [the EA] took the time to actually dive in and figure out what I was looking for, what my goals were, and made sure the program was a good fit for me. I couldn’t have asked for anything better in an initial conversation. —Jordan Schumacher, Bachelor’s in Health Sciences, ’20
Why should you talk with an Enrollment Adviser?
Continuing your education is a big step. Whether you’re just starting to think about going back to school, or you’re ready to apply, our enrollment advisers (EAs) are here to help you through the process.
In a one-on-one phone meeting, you and an EA will discuss your goals and what you need from a program. Your EA will help you fully understand your program details and whether that program is a good fit to help you achieve your goals. Your EA will also be your point of contact through the admissions process, so they’ll help you keep track of your admissions materials.
What will a conversation with an Enrollment Adviser be like?
The conversation can take as little or as much time as you need, although we’ve found most of our in-depth conversations average 20 to 30 minutes. Your EA will also be your regular point of contact in your decision-making process.
To begin with, EAs start each conversation by learning more about your educational background, career goals, and family/life responsibilities. Above all, by understanding your situation and what is important to you, your EA can better help you learn if the UW Flexible Option is a good fit. Our programs are unique, and since everyone learns differently, we want you to be prepared in advance before you make an investment.
The enrollment team are advisers, not a sales team. Therefore, they are motivated to understand your situation and to offer guidance based on what’s in your best interest. The team is not commissioned, so you can be confident that their only motivation is helping you meet your goals.
The enrollment adviser will cover the following information to help you make a well-informed decision:
Program overview | Potential career paths |
Online learning experience | How Competency-Based Education Works |
Start dates and schedules | Tuition and financial aid |
Time needed weekly | Transfer credit |
Admissions guidelines and process | Program outcomes and graduation |
I’ve had an advising call, what’s next?
Afterwards, you will receive a follow-up email that summarizes the phone call, provides links to information, and outlines next steps. If you’re ready to move forward, your EA will work with you on setting a reasonable timeline to complete your application. Remember, UW Flexible Option programs start every single month, so your EA will help you get started on a timeline that works for you. If the program is not a good fit or if you are not yet qualified at this time, your EA will do their best to provide other options.
