Dual Enrollment

Dual enrollment, or concurrent enrollment, is the practice of allowing a student to be enrolled in two academic institutions at once. Through the UW Flexible Option program, you are considered dually enrolled if you are enrolled at an institution other than your home institution from which you will earn your degree.  For example, students pursuing a Business Administration degree at UW-Parkside may be dually enrolled in general education courses offered through UW-Milwaukee.

As a dually enrolled student, you will pay your tuition through one institution, but you will use multiple systems to register, access coursework, and view final grades. You will also have an email address from each institution, so make sure to check each email regularly for important information or forward your email to one account.

For UW-Parkside students dually enrolled at UW-Milwaukee:

Dual Enrollment Reminders
  1. Campus Email

While enrolled in a UW-Milwaukee course, you should check your UW-Milwaukee email account. If your professor reaches out to you, they will do so through your UW-Milwaukee email. You may want to consider forwarding your UW-Milwaukee email to your UW-Parkside email.

  1. Accessing Courses in Canvas

Login to UW-Milwaukee Canvas to access your UW-Milwaukee course(s). If you’re enrolled at both UW-Milwaukee and at UW-Parkside, you will have a UW-Milwaukee Canvas account and a UW-Parkside Canvas account, respectively. Here are some helpful instructions for accessing both instances of Canvas.

  1. Final Grades

Final courses are posted approximately one week after the last day of each subscription period. Your final UW-Parkside grades will be posted in SOLAR and your final UW-Milwaukee grades will be posted in PAWS. Grades posted in Canvas are not considered official, final grades.

  1. Tuition Payment

Although you are registering for a course through UW-Milwaukee, you will continue to pay your tuition through SOLAR (UW-Parkside).  You will always pay your tuition through the home institution from which you will earn your degree, even if you (1) are not actively enrolled in any courses at UW-Parkside or (2) you have an account balance showing in PAWS (UW-Milwaukee).  For information on how to make a payment online for UW-Parkside, visit the payments web page.

Note: You will see a placeholder course enrollment in your SOLAR Student Center that represents the number of credits you intend to take through UW-Milwaukee. For billing purposes, the placeholder indicates that you are taking a course through UW-Milwaukee.

  1. Proctoring

Some UW-Milwaukee courses contain proctored assessments. You can learn more about proctoring by visiting the Proctoring Process Overview web page.

  1. Academic Policies

All students participating in UW-Milwaukee courses are expected to follow UW-Milwaukee’s Academic Policies. Note that your UW-Milwaukee academic standing does not impact your academic standing at UW-Parkside. There are some key differences in course grading between the institutions, as shown in this table:

UW-Parkside Enrollment UW-Milwaukee Enrollment
Grades Awarded MD, M, PR, or F. A, B, C, F, W, or PR.
Minimum Progress Required for a PR Grade Must just establish attendance (FCC, or a single assessment) to be PR eligible Varies by course. Check your course orientation in Canvas to determine the requisite level of progress required for PR eligibility.
Course Attempts Allowed 4 total attempts allowed. 2 total attempts are allowed (1 initial enrollment, 1 re-enrollment).
